The 'principle' deception (19/4/11)

Many today are teaching that 'tithing' is applicable under the New Covenant because it is a 'spiritual principle' which existed before the Law.

This is a deception which is NOT taught in the bible but extrapolated by covetous preachers and which results in God's children being put under the requirements of the Law by stealth! They willfully ignore the DIRECT statements from Jesus and the author of Hebrews that tithing was a 'matter of the Law' (Mat 23:23, Heb 7:5). Where something was a requirement before the Law (like circumcision) Jesus pointed out that it was so (John 7:22)

The fact is that there is NO biblical command for anyone to give a tithe of anything before or after the Law. The only place where a 'tithe' is commanded is in the Law...read Lev 27:30-34...it is a command for ISRAEL only

Lev 27:34  These are the commandments which the LORD commanded Moses for the children of Israel on Mount Sinai.  NKJV

If a 'pre-law' tithe is required because we are to follow in Abrahams footsteps then we should be 'tithing' as Abraham tithed.....

ie not until we are rich first (Gen 13:2)

ie only from 'spoils of war which belong to other people (Gen 14:16 and Heb 7:4)

ie never of our own wealth

ie only once in our lifetime

ie only after we have an encounter with a recognised priest of God who is also a king who blesses us first  (Gen 14:18)

ie only to such a person if he does not ask for the tithe and we voluntarily choose to give it

OR we should tithe as Jacob 'tithed'....

ie only if God first blesses us and meets a whole list of our criteria

ie only if we return safely to the land of our fathers....with more than we left with

ie only after we have an incredible encounter with God....and see angels

ie only once in our lifetime (if that ever even happened is not shown in the scriptures)

Brethren, tithing as a requirement, is either a principle which applied before the Law (but there are NO scriptures to support this)...or it is OF the Law as Jesus and the bible clearly teach. As it is OF the Law, then scriptures from Exodus to Malachi do NOT apply to us as New Testament believers. (Acts 15)

It is noted that frequently when preachers who do not have any supporting scriptures which say something is required or beneficial, they resort to calling it a 'spiritual principle'...or sometimes even a 'revelation'. This happened even in the early church! Paul's response is a command (MUST) to address this.

Titus 1:10-12

For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, 11 whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain.   NKJV

(for filthy lucres sake    KJV)

A test of whether something is true is  'What is the agenda of the person who is teaching it?'.....IS HE AFTER YOUR MONEY?

If he is the beneficiary, then he is 'teaching things which he ought not for the sake of dishonest gain!

Jesus simply told people to 'Give to the POOR'.....He NEVER asked for money! (Mat 19:21, Luke 14:13, Luke 19:8, John 13:29)

If the scriptures do not teach a doctrine clearly, it is NOT a requirement which we are to do OR which we will benefit from doing!

Acts 20:27
For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God.  NKJV...

According to Paul in my bible 'the WHOLE counsel of God' does NOT include a requirement to tithe!...What right has any preacher to ADD to Pauls teaching?

Acts 20:20
I kept back nothing that was helpful ... NKJV

and yet preachers would have us believe that Paul failed to tell us that in order to be blessed we need to 'tithe'?

2 Cor 1:13
13 For we are not writing any other things to you than what you read or understand.    NKJV

1 Cor 4:6
that you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written     NKJV

2 Cor 11:3
But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity  that is in Christ.    NKJV

Those who claim that tithing may not be specifically taught but that it is implied are according to the Paul in Titus quite probably deceivers and covetous wolves of whom God warns us to be aware and from whom Paul commands that we should withdraw our support.    (Acts 20:29-35 and 2 Thes 3:6-10)

Gal 2:10
10 They desired only that we should remember the poor,    NKJV

Here is the clear bible teaching...they ONLY desired that we remember the POOR...NOT church organisations....NOT pastors...ONLY the POOR!

Titus 2:11-14

For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.   NKJV

This is the SCRIPTURES spiritual principle of 'giving'.....God gave HIS grace to us in Christ....and after we experience it we will find ourselves desiring to do 'good works' which show His love to others

Gal 5:6
6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.    NKJV

Gal 5:13-15

13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."   NKJV

Rom 13:8

Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.   NKJV

Gal 6:7-10

7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.    NKJV

THIS brethren is what 'sowing and reaping' is about! .....Doing GOOD to the NEEDY whenever we have opportunity!               (NOT giving money to preachers or churches in the hope getting a great return....treating God like some cosmic slot machine)

Tithing is NOT the same as giving.

Giving is FREEWILL but tithing IS a law which is done 'under compulsion' and contrary to God's word where money is not required.

2 Cor 9:6-7

But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.    NKJV

Philem 14
I wanted to do nothing, that your good deed might not be by compulsion, as it were, but voluntary.   NKJV

Lev 22:28-29
29 And when you offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the LORD, offer it of your own free will.    NKJV

Brethren there is NO spiritual principle of 'tithing'.....do a bible search yourself on any of these or related topics .

(Be like good Bereans....you will find NOTHING!)

A principle is NOT a doctrine....it is NOT a requirement....and in the case of 'storehouse money tithing' it is no more than a DECEPTION!

Moses under the Law required ISRAEL ONLY to give tithes ONLY of the produce of the land ...ie FOOD....monetary income was NEVER tithed ....and tithes were only ever to be given to Levites who had first FORFEITED their inheritance in the land!

Jesus and the apostles NEVER taught tithing to Gentile believers....they only ever taught freewill giving....to the POOR and HOSPITALITY towards itinerant preachers!

Money tithing was only introduced by the church after almost 800 years....(yes when it was totally corrupted in the Dark Ages!)

The vast majority of the church today still does not teach tithing....and less than 5% of christians worldwide practice it!

Where is this so-called 'principle' ever taught in the New Testament of the bible  ?

The main reason why the tithing doctrine is taught is to try to get God's people to BREAK the fourth commandment...

ie to get us to give 'first to God'...(being the local 'church' which teachers of this false doctrine control)....before we provide for our families ......and other needs such as helping the poor ...  and also paying our bills.

Matt 15:3-7

3 He answered and said to them, "Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?  4 For God commanded, saying, 'Honor your father and your mother'; and, 'He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.'  5 But you say, 'Whoever says to his father or mother,"Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God" —   6 then he need not honor his father or mother.' Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.   NKJV

Jesus here rebukes the religious institution of His day for teaching that 'giving to God' was the first requirement before providing for our families...especially our parents.

Paul confirms that providing for our families IS a believers first financial responsibilty

1 Tim 5:4-8
4 But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show piety at home and to repay their parents; for this is good and acceptable before God......

8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.   NKJV

Brethren this is what the DECEPTION is about.......

God's priorities for our giving are FIRST family .....and THEN poor.....and then only FREEWILL giving!

Preachers of this deception want your money FIRST!.....contrary to the CLEAR teaching of the bible!

Giving to God in the New Testament is ONLY done by giving to the POOR!  ...and NEVER at the expense of our families needs!
